My cell phone vibrated in my pocket signaling to me that I was receiving a call. Quickly answering, I heard your soft voice distinctly say, "Hello Rachel, this is Tessa. Are you in the middle of something or do you have time to talk?" My mind raced ahead of your words trying to tell from the tone of your voice if everything was OK. Well yes, I was right in the middle of work. We discussed what I was doing for a moment and then you quickly said, "Well, call me back when it is convenient. I just have some news!" I could hear the quiver of excitement in your voice and I quickly responded, "I ALWAYS have time for news from you." Then you said, "Well last night Michael asked me to marry him and I said YES!" I was so excited for you that I wanted to jig a happy dance and yell to the top of my lungs in an extremely excited squeal, but that wasn't exactly appropriate at work, you know! Since you were a teenager you've told me how you have admired my marriage. You say it is an example that you want to follow. Honestly, everytime you tell me that I suppose it catches me just a little off guard to realize that other people are watching us and taking note. Across the years, you and I have occasionally talked about the qualities that build strong and loving bonds of marriage, just like we did the day you called me with the news of your engagement. Now that you and Michael are planning your wedding, I've been thinking about marriage vows. As you know, we just passed our 25th wedding anniversary in June. That feels freakishly impossible. Where have 25 years gone? 25 years, are you kiddin' me? I certainly don't feel old enough to have gained the perspective that I have by looking forward from our wedding day and also looking back to it. Maybe I will talk about that later. Thank you for your sweet expression of confidence in us. You can have a wonderful marriage too. However I will tell you it doesn't just happen on accident. A good marriage takes work and committment and living with intention and purpose. I must go for now. I will write more later. Much Love and Prayers, Rachel

Are you in the middle of something or do you have time to talk?" My mind raced ahead of your words trying to tell from the tone of your voice if everything was OK.
